Anne Sportun

Anne Sportun has discovered the secret on how to speak in a universal language of shapes and symbols and creating a subtle harmony between the precise and the irregular.

Even a Canadian postage stamp issued in 2003 is witness to her assiduous devotion to jewellery design. Her hands and rings are featured on this stamp to bear witness of an incredible passion for jewellery which started for her every since she was a child.

What to know when buying Anne Sportun

In the basement of her childhood home, surrounded by the tools in her father’s workshop, Anne Sportun began to experiment with a craft that brought her the first wholesale order in 1981, when she was only sixteen.
Later, instead of taking academic studies in archaeology, her passion drove her to a three year Jewellery Arts Program where she started to develop her skills that brought her world fame. In 1987, she registered Experimental Jewellery Works, her company that was dedicated to her dream.

Anne Sportun still had to work on odd jobs to help her get by. But while working at an architect’s office she met Barbara Kelly, a book-keeper that noticed Anne’s work.

Together they started to develop Experimental and Barbara was the one who represented Anne’s craft at international trade shows. Anne focused on her pieces back in the studio.

Ten years later, Barbara and Anne became business partners. In 1992, the first retail location opened in Toronto and the second one followed 12 years later. Both retail venues were successful, the same as the wholesale operations with an increasing clientele.

Anne Sportun became a name that was synonymous with well-designed and finely-made jewellery. Over 123 stores across the United States are now selling her collections and her debut on the UK market certainly looks promising.
